Please read these Terms of Service carefully before using Ukus. By accessing or using the platform, you agree to be bound by these terms. These terms constitute a legal agreement between you and Ukus.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using Ukus in any way, you confirm that you are at least 13 years of age and that you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use Ukus.

2. Description of Service

Ukus is a personal restaurant journaling platform that allows users to log restaurant visits, rate and review restaurants on a 1–10 scale, create curated lists, follow other users, view community activity, and explore a personal food map. Ukus is provided free of charge. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the service at any time, with or without notice.

3. Account Registration

  • You must provide an accurate email address, username, and password when registering. Usernames must be between 3 and 20 characters and may only contain letters, numbers, and underscores.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. Do not share your password with anyone.
  • You must verify your email address before you can log restaurants. A verification link will be sent to the email address you provide.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You must notify us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.
  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. User Content

When you post content on Ukus — including restaurant reviews, ratings, profile bios, list names, and descriptions — you retain ownership of that content. By posting content, you grant Ukus a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display, reproduce, and distribute that content as part of the service.

You agree that your content will not:

  • Be false, misleading, or defamatory.
  • Contain hate speech, harassment, threats, or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
  • Contain profanity, sexually explicit material, or graphic violence.
  • Infringe any third-party intellectual property rights, including copyright or trademarks.
  • Contain spam, promotional content unrelated to restaurants, or links to malicious sites.
  • Violate any applicable law or regulation.

We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these terms without notice.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use Ukus only for its intended purpose of logging and reviewing restaurants you have personally visited. You must not:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of Ukus or its underlying systems.
  • Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access, collect, or submit data.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise derive source code from the service.
  • Use the service to spam, abuse, or harass other users.
  • Impersonate another person or entity.
  • Post reviews for restaurants you have not personally visited.
  • Artificially inflate or manipulate ratings.
  • Interfere with the operation of the service or servers.

6. Restaurant Data

Restaurant information displayed on Ukus is sourced from publicly available datasets including OpenStreetMap contributors and government open data portals (such as SIT Québec). This data is provided for informational purposes only. We make no warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, or currency of restaurant information. Restaurant names, addresses, and other details may be outdated or incorrect.

7. Community Features

Ukus includes community features such as following other users and a public activity feed. By using these features, you acknowledge that:

  • Your username, reviews, ratings, and curated lists may be visible to other users of the platform.
  • Other users may follow your profile and view your logged restaurants and lists.
  • We reserve the right to limit or disable community features at any time.

8. Email Communications

By registering, you agree to receive the following transactional emails from Ukus:

  • Account verification emails when you register or request a new verification link.
  • Password reset emails (when this feature is available).
  • Important service announcements affecting your account.

We do not send marketing or promotional emails without your explicit consent.

9. Intellectual Property

The Ukus name, logo, wordmark, design system, and all associated branding are the intellectual property of Ukus. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our branding without our prior written consent. The software and code underlying Ukus are proprietary. User-generated content remains the property of the respective users, subject to the licence granted in Section 4.

10. Disclaimers

Ukus is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. Restaurant ratings and reviews represent the personal opinions of individual users and do not constitute professional recommendations.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Ukus and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of Ukus shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (which, given the service is currently free, shall be zero).

12. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without cause, including but not limited to violation of these Terms of Service. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately. We will delete your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

13. Modifications to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Ukus after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. We encourage you to review these terms periodically.

14. Governing Law

These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of British Columbia, Canada.
